Abstract The aim of the present work is to study the association of echocardiographically detennined LV mass and nmction with simple obesity in asymptomatic nonnotensive obese subjects and to assess the effect of weight reduction on these LV mass and function. The study included 66 obese subjects (33 men and 33 women) with a mean age 35 years. They were selected from medical outpatient clinic of Mansoura University Hospital. The obese individuals were compared with 20 normal lean subjects, age and sex matched. The BM! of the control subjects ranged from 22.2 to 24.4 Kg/m2.The studied subjects were asymptomatic with no history, clinical and or laboratory evidence of diabetes mellitus, systemic hypertension, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, congestive heart failure or significant pulmonary disease. The studied persons were subjected to the following: 1- Thorough medical history. 2- Thorough general and cardiac examination. 3- Anthropometric measurements: a- Height and weight for measuring BM!. b-Waist and hip circumferences for measurement of WHR. |
