Abstract Late onset seizures are seizures starting after the age of 25 years . Investigation of patient with late onset epilepsy is generally believed to be more likely to identify a structural cause than investigation of a younger patients with a seizure disorder . This study aimed at: (1) Assessment of the diagnostic value of MRI in Sate onset epileptic patients in whom brain CT scan either normal or did not allow a definitive diagnosis to be made . , (2) Determining the predominant seizure type (s), (3) Detecting the possible etiological factors of late onset epilepsy & (4) To determine which patients may benefit most from MRI. Our series included 125 Egyptian patients (75 males and 50 females ) whose ages ranged from 26-73 years , with a mean age of 44.27 11.8 years SD . The duration of seizures ranged from 7 days up to 20 patients were subjected to the following investigations : (1) Thorough neurological examination . (2) Routine laboratory investigations. (3 )ConventionaI(scalp-electrode)electroencephalogram (EEG) (4) Computed tomographic head scan (CT). (5) Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain (MRI ). (6) Cerebral angiography in some selected cases . |
