Abstract

This study was planned to evaluate the validity of end tidal in adult patients undergoing laparoscopic gynaecological procedures under general anaesthesia and its correlation with arterial blood gases. Thirty one patients were included in this study. All patients were subjected to general anesthesia that was induced with thiopentone and maintained with Halothane-Oxygen inhalation and relaxant (Atracurium) .
Patients were classified into two groups according to the duration of the procedure. Eleven patients were included in the 1st group (long cases) and the duration of the procedure varied from 1.5 hour to 3 hours. The 2nd group included twenty patients (short cases) and the duration was 30 minutes. Patients were mechanically ventilated. Arterial samples were taken immediately pre- insufflation, post-insufflation, pre-deflation and 20 min post-def lation with simul taneous recording of PEC02, heart rate, arterial blood pressure and Sa02.
