Abstract Two hundred consecutive cases of (Child A or B) variceal bleeding were subjected to DSRS (n=46), S&GED (n=54), EVS (n=50) or BB Before randomization these patients were subjected to thorough clinical nation, laboratory work up, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, radiology and odynamic evaluation, cardiopulmonary, assessment, neuropsychiatric ( uation, histopathological diagnosis of the underlying liver disease and ;logical screening for hepatitis markers. Patients of the surgical groups were evaluated at one week, one month, e months, six months, one year after surgery and yearly thereafter. In the p ofEVS, sclerotherapy sessions were repeated every 3 weeks till complete ~tration of the varices, then all patients were subjected to follow up endoscopy ry three months, any recurrent varices were reinjected untill reoblitration was ieved. In the group of BB, patients were evaluated at 3 monthly intervals . ing the first year, then yearly thereafter. Comprehensive evaluation for all dy patients was completed in the one year follow up. The patients were followed up for 14-64 months (37.0 ± 11.3) in the RS group, 12-58 months (35.4 ± 8.9) in the S&GED group, 15-45 months 1.3 ± 6.7}in the EVS group and 14-48 months (31.4 ± 8.2) in the group ofBB. |
