Abstract
This study was cauied on 75 patients with chronic liver diseases i attending the outpatient clinic of the Tropical Medicine Unite, Mansoura University Hospital, in addition to 7 healthy volunteers as a control. The patients were selected in stratified randomized manner and were ssified into: -Section atients with chronic liver diseases: *They were divided into the following groups according to the etiology of liver disease into: +Grou enic schistosomiasis. +Grouo ll: (Chronic heoatitis B). +Grouo ill: (Chronic heoatitis C). . +Grouo IV: (Autoimmune heoatitis). *Each group was further subdivided into two subgroups according to presence or absence of ascites: (A) Compensated. (B) Decompensated. +Control 2:roup: *They were in good health without any thyroid or hepatic disorder.
