Abstract cross sectional descriptive comparitive design was used with a sample of 20 women with rheumatoid arthritis (median age 45 years) , 12 women with SLE (median age 21 years) and 12 healthy female controls (median age 35 years) . The aim was to: 1- Find out the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in those patients. 2- Study the relationship between psychiatric disorders and disease activity, patients disability and socio-economic . coditions. Disease activity was assessed in patients with RA using individual clinical and laboratory criteria including: morning stiffness, pain score, articular index, ESR, HB, CRP and also using a composite index comprising both criteria in one single score. Disease activity in SLE patients was assessed using the method of Liang. Patients disability was assessed in both groups using the method of Steinbrocker. The psychiatric condition of RA and SLE patients and controls was assessed using MHO. The socio-economic status was also evaluated using LEO. |
