Abstract

Obstructive uropathy is a major problem, because it predisposes to urinary infection, renal damage and lastly renal failure. Radiology in particular plays very essential role in the diagnosis and sometimes in management of some cases. In our study, we aimed to clarify the role of each radiological techni ques in di agnosi s of uri nary obstructi on and to differenti ate between these various techniques in order to reach to a perfectdiagnosise. This work included 50 patients, 43 males and 7 females, their ages ranged from the first to the seventh decade, the highest percentage occured in the 4 decade of life, where 28% of cases in this decade. The male to female ratio was 6:1. We have used the different radiological techniques as U.T.P., I.V.U., ultrasound and renal isotope scanning, we have concluded that, not every dilated pel vi calyceal system is considered obstructed a nd there is no rel ati on between the degree of dil atati on or hydronephrosis and the degree of obstruction. Isotope scanning (diuretic renography) is the technique which helped us to reach to this fact, where many cases of hydronephrosis were proved to be dilated non obstructed in the diuretic renogram. This clarify the necessity of uroctfnamic study in this concept which is very essential for the urologists, As regards the interventional or the therapeutic role of.
