Abstract

This experimental study was carried out to uncover the possible interactions between aspirin which is still the most widely prescribed analgesic, antipyretic, and anti¬inflammatory agent; and some aminoglycosides ( gentamicin and amikacin ) which are the most useful antimicrobial agents for the treatment of gram (- ve ) negative bacteria, especially the serious infections. The interactions were done at pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic levels and the study was a trial to clarify the possible interactions between them at molecular level. Induction of arthritis was produced in rats by subcutaneous injection of a chemical irritant substance (carrageenin ) in the dorsum of the right hind foot. An equal volume of saline was injected in the left hind foot for control. Rats were divided into main sex groups, each group comprised twenty (20) animals and given the tested drugs for seven ( 7 ) days. Group ( 1 ) : Rats were given 1 ml of the solvent solution and served as a control group. Group ( 2 ) : rats were treated with aspirin ( 200 mg / kg ) as a single oral daily dose. Group (3): rats were treated with gentamicin ( 5 mg / kg ) as a single intramuscular daily dose. Group ( 4): rats were treated with amikacin ( 15 mg / kg ) as a single intramuscular daily dose. Group ( 5 ) : rats were treated with aspirin and gentamicin concomitantly as the same previously mentioned doses. Group ( 6 ) : rats were treated with aspirin and amikacin concomitantly as the same previously mentioned doses.
