Abstract This study was performed on 40 cases of undifferentiated tumours. The microscopic picture of the tumours as well as immunohistochemical studies were investigated. 1- Selection of the cases: 14 cases were selected from the archival material, while the other 26 cases were newly diagnosed as undifferentiated tumours. 2- Microscopic picture of the tumour: The study of the microscopic picture by H & E revealed that: 7 cases (17.5%) were diagnosed as non Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) . 14 cases (35%) were diagnosed as undifferentiated carcinoma (UC) (10 eases were primary -4 were metastatic tumours). 17 cases (42.5%) were diagnosed as sarcoma. 2 cases (5%) were diagnosed as melanoma. 3- Immunohistochemical studies: The expression of the four monoclonal antibodies; cytokeratin, v imentin , LCA and S-l 00 protein were investigated by studying the immunoreactivity of these markers using Sterptavidin-Biotin peroxidase technique. All cases of NHL were confirmed by positive LCA stain. 3 cases of them were positive with vimentin also. 3 cases of the provisionally diagnosed UC were positive with LCA thus, immune stain change the diagnosis from UC into NHL Only one case ofUC was positive with keratin. Thus confirming the provisional diagnosis. |
