Abstract The ankle’ is an anatomicaly complex region that often is the site of osseous and soft tissue trauma and occounting for 100/0 of emergency department visits, fallacies in diagnosis of the extent of soft tissue injury around the ankle make prognosis is unexpected. Magnetic resonance imaging has become the imaging modality of choice for the defintion of treatment program. The aim of this work is to study the role of MRI in detection and diagnosis different injured element of soft tissue around the ankle in acutely traumatised patient. We have reviewed the litreature with regard anatomy of the ankle joint, biomechanics and pathomechanics of the ankle joint. the different ways to diagnose soft tissue injuries have been reviewed and the other diagnostic modalitis also have been reviewed. Lastly, we have reviewed the role of MRI in ankle trauma. The material of this study consisted of thirty six cases with acute ankle trauma. All cases have been subjected to clinical examination, plain radiography and magnetic resonance imaging of the affected ankle. |
