Abstract
Planter fasciitis and calcaneal spur are considered one of the important chronic diseases that faces the orthopaedic surgeon. This disease IS more common after the age of fourty in those patients who are hard workers and specially In works that necessiate long periods of standing and the disease IS more common in females than males. There are many t~eories that explain the aetiology of the disease. Such as traumatic, degenerative, Metabolic and inflammatory theory. The pain appears when the patient arises from bed in the mornIng or after periods of rest, it may decrease gradually when the patient walks but it returns again when he continues to walk or stand for long periods. By clinical examination there IS a very tender area at the medial aspect of the calcaneus just anterior to the medial calcaneal tubercle, the tenderness is elecited by pressure on the planter surface of the os-calcis. Radiological examination may reveal prescence of calcaneal spur, but in many cases this spur may be abscent
