Abstract
The cytological features and the inflammatory cell response present in the superficial corneal epithelium specimens obtained by the replica technique from 34 patients having trachomatous ketratitis With those present in the conjunctival scrapings.Clinical and cytological data indicated that trachomatous keratitis. has its own course which it nat dependent on the conjunctival disease, as severe keratitis was not associated with specific stages of conjunctival affection according to MacCallan’s classification. Moreover thtt f~equency of finding inclusions in the corneal specimens was not essential1y the same as in the conjunctival scrapings, indicating that the activity of the disease may differ in the ronlea ftnd conjunctiva of the same patient.
