Abstract
One of the greatest problems facing -the universe nowadays is the crisis of over population. In the opinion of many, this problem has now reached auch catastrophic proportions that it outrules all other threats to the survival of mankind. To those who are deeply concernod about the world population crisis, one of the most frus¬trating features of the situation is the fact that, with the introduotion of the new and realy efficient methods of birth control notably by oral contraoeption and by the intrauterine devices among others,. together with liberalization of abortion laws in many countries, the problem would appear in the long term to be capable of soultion. Such a soultion is at present being prevented by factors which are ass¬entially non medical in type and include inadequate standards of education, the teaching of various religious faiths and the mistaken belief that the production of a large number of children is desirable trom the point of view of society. sprogressively accepted by ma¬ny couples who desire no more children. Female sterilization is brought with many difficulties and it involves religious and moral considerations. Roman Catholics do not accept sterilization under any circumstances. Female sterilization may be •. f¬fected by operations on the fallopian tUbe, the ovaries,artd the uterus. In most cases an operation on the tube is utilized. Unless thet is a coincid¬ent diseases of both ovaries, casteration is never indicated as a method of sterilization as it indu¬ces the menopause with its nuisances and remote de¬generative changes. Hystrectomy has the great merit its oertainity and many have used it as a method of fe¬mile sterilization but it has sever psychological drawbacks and the cessations of menstrual function almost inevitably makes the woman feels that she is -.
