Abstract Endometr.ial carcinoma is a relatively common tumour of the uterus} frequently preceeded by or associated with endometrial hyperplasia. Both disorders seem to have the same pathogenesis. Endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma are linked to postmenopausal bleeding. This study is based on using the transvaginal sonography in measuring the endometrial thicknes and trying to find a correlation between the thickness measured and the histopathology of the endometrial biopsy obtained by operative specimen. The study included a total of 75 post-menopausal women} selected randomely from the outpatient clinic of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Mansoura University Hospital. The cases were divided into 2 groups: a study group including 50 patients presenting by postmenopausal bleeding and a control group including 25 patients not presenting by bleeding. All cases were examined by transvaginal sonography and the endometrial thickness was measured in each case} |
