Abstract

The present study comprised 25 patients who were randomally allocated to receive either int~avenous systemic chemotherapy (Group A.) or chemotherapy coupled with hepatic irradiation.(Group B). The age of patients in the study ranges from 39-85 years, with mean age 57.8. The male to female ration was 5.25: 1 it is higher thon that was reported by other investigators on Egyptian patients. Abdominal mass and right hypochondrial pain were the most conm10n two presenting symptoms encountered in (88% & 84%). in ’;rroup A and group B respectively. Subjective response was obtained in about 20 patients, complete disappearance of all symptoms was encountered in 7.7% and 16.6% of patients in group (A) and group (B) respectively. When pain control evaluated a was statistically significant better response was found in the group of combined chemotherapy and hepatic irradiation. There was no complete objective response to either J chemotherapy or chemotherapy coupled wi th hepatic irradiation, partial response was achieved in 6 patients of group A (Chemotherapy) and 5 patients in group B- (combined treatment).
