Abstract The present study is a retrospective and prospective analysis of 555 atients of well-differentiated thyroid cancer, and 146 patients of yrotoxicosis who were attending in Kasr El-Eini Centre of Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine (NEMROCK) and Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department, Mansoura University Hospital during the iperiod from 1984 to Juli 1995. (1) Well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma: The study included 555 patients of well differentiated thyroid carcinoma, their age ranged from 10 to 80 years with mean age 42.1 years. The number of females patients was 375 (67.6%) and male patients was 80 (32.4%), with male to female ratio 1 : 2.1. Papillary carcinoma was 66.8% of all patients, while follicular type was 33.2%. Papillary carcinoma had higher incidence of lymph node and lung metastases, while follicular carcinoma had higher incidence of bone metastases. Hemithyroidectomy was done in 67 patients, while near-total thyroidectomy was done in 488 patients. All the 555 patients suffering from well differentiated thyroid cancer were treated by radioactive iodine, 253 patients were treated with low ablative dose ranging 30-50 mCi and 302 patients were treated with high ablative dose 80-100 mCi.
