Abstract

This study included a retrospective analysis of eighty patients Hodgkin’s disease presented to Mansoura University Hospital, Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department during the period from 1985-1994 inclusive. In the present study, we found that Hodgkin’s disease accounted for 2% of all malignant tumors and 28.9% of malignant lymphoma. A correlation had been done between survival (both 2- year and 5 year survival) and relapse with different factors known to affect the prognosis in cases of Hodgkin’s disease as age & Sex & stage & pathological type & bulk of disease & number of lymph node affected & presence of extra nodal lesion & J3 symptoms & E.S.R & anemia. Survival rates were directly proportional with age. The older the age, the lower survival rate. Survival rate was lower in male patients than in females and relapse rate was higher in males than in female patients. The number of lymph node involved was correlated with prognosis & relapse. Patients with 3 or less of lymph node involvement had higher survival rate and lower relapse rate than those with more than 3 lymph node involved.
