Abstract CA 15.3 is a cir-culatirlg antigen expr’essed by humar. br-east car-cinoma cells that can be identified by means of two monoclonal antibodies (Mab 115D8, DF3) on the sur-face or- in the cytoplasm of human mammary cancer cells. Plasma CA 15~3 levels wer-e found to be not significantly different in the pr-emenopausal and postmenopausal women included in the normal healthy contr-ol gr-oup. All the nor-mal healthy contr-ol women had CA 15.3 level below the 25 u/ml cut-off l~vel. Patients with benign br-east conditions presented CA 15.3 level similar to that of the normal healthy control gr•oup. Patients with malignancies different from br-east cancer¬mainly cervical, endometrial and ovar-ian car-cinomas pr-esented CA 15.3 levels close to that of the nor-mal healthy control gr-oup. Only in patients with ovarian carcinomas the CA 15.3 level appear slightly higher than that of the normal healthy contr-ol. |
