Abstract This study was conducted on 75 subjects, comprising 55 patients with bleeding oesophageal varices and 20 healthy subjects as a control group. All patients were males with age ranged between 20-70 years with mean of (45Y). The control group persons were males of age ranged between 20¬60Y (mean 40). All of them were subjected to thorough history taking and clinical examiantion. besides some laboratory investigations (S.albumin, SGPT, total S.bilirubin, prothrombin activity and complete blood picture). Abdominal ultrasonography was done to all studied cases, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for diagnosing the source of bleeding and sclerotherapy was doen to all patients. From the results of this study it was found that: 94.55% of patients with bleeding O.V. presented by hematemsis and melena while 5.45% presented by melena alone. 18.18% of patients with bleeding a.v. had manifestations of liver cell failure. |
