Abstract This study was carried out on 161 patients with idiopathic FSGS aged 3 to 58 years at nephrology clinic of Mansoura Urology and Nephrology Center during the period from 1983 to 1993. Among them, 107 patients were males and 54 patients were females. After a thorough history and clinical examination, all patients were subjected to the following investigations. Complete urine analysis, 24 hr urinary protein excretion, serum creatinine, plasma protein, serum albumin, total serum cholesterol. Ultrasound-guided renal biopsy was done for every patient and kidney tissue was examined using light and immuno-fluorescence microscopy. Only 126 cases were re-examined pathologically for re-classification according to recent classification of FSGS. Fourty six patients were rediagnosed as hilar lesion, twenty four were peripheral lesion, thirty four were diffuse multiple segmental lesion and twenty two were cellular lesion while other lesions were not diagnosed among our patients like collapsing FSGS, FSGS wi th tip lesion, FSGS with diffuse mesangial proliferation and FSGS with glomerulomegaly. Rebiopsy was done for 6 patients after a mean period of 10.4 months from the onset of prospective randomized study. Steroid was given to 63 out of 161 patients. Their response were present as follow: 10 cases were steroid sensitive with high frequency among peripheral. |
