Abstract

Nephrotic syndrome is a clinical entity charac¬terized, by increased glomerular permeability mani¬fested by massive proteinuria, lipiduria vdth a vari¬able tendency towards oedema, hypoabluminaemia and lipidaemia(Schriener, 1971).Hyperlipidaemia of nephrotic patients requires hypolipidaemic drug the¬rapy if it is not controlled with steroids or immuno¬suppressives (Early & Forland, 1979). This work :J.s a trial to study and compare the effect of different hypolipaemic drugs on nephrotic hyperli¬pidaemia. The drugs tried were Bezafibrate, clofi¬brate and nicotinic acid. Thirty patients with primary nephrosis and hyperlipidaemia were chosen for this pur¬pose. Before starting drug adminstration, a fasting blood sample was taken for estimation of total lipids, total cholesterol, HDLc, LDLc and triglycerides. Also blood sugar, serum creatinine and blood urea were de¬termined. The patients were classified into three groups each comprised 10 pu.tients. Each group recieved one of the previously mentioned drugs in the following
