Abstract

Obesity is a major health problem. There is no general agreement on the best method to evaluate the obese state. It was aimed in this study to evaluate some of the methods used in diagnosis of obesity and their relation to its complication. Fifty obeses and ten controls of matched age and sex were studied. All cases and controls were subjected to measurement of weight, height, total body fat, weight-height indices, skinfold thickness (subscapular, triceps, supra-iliac, thigh) and body circumference (waist, hip, upper arm, thigh, leg, forearm). CT scan at the level of the umbilicus was done for ten cases of the studied group. All cases and controls were subjected to biochemical measurement (fasting, post prandial blood glucose, serum uric acid, serum cholesterol, serum triglyceride, L.D.L., and H.D.L.)
