Abstract This study was performed on 95 patients purely infected with schistosoma mansoni, 67 parasite free individuals and 8 patients with other parasitic infections as controls. Schistosoma mansoni positive cases were classified into three groups according to the severity of infection: i- Simple intestinal bilharziasis (Group A). ii- Hepatosplenomegaly (Group B). iii- Liver cirrhois (Group C). * All cases were subjected to stool examination. * 85 cases were subjected to rectal biopsy. * All cases were subjected to urine examiantion by fast dot¬ELISA technique to detect circulating schistosoma monsoni antigen in urine. * The control group were subjected to stool examination on three successive days or detection of anti-schistosomal antibodies in the serum by ELISA technique instead of performing rectal biopsy. |
