Abstract Furuncles and subcutaneous abscesses probably represent the most commonly encountered forms of infection. Moreover, skin infections tend to be recurrent in many patients and often spread to other family members ( steele, 1980). Immunodeficiency should be considered whenever infections are either recurrent and more severe ( kragballe and Ell is , 1985). The aim of the present investigation was to study neutrophil chemotaxis and killing function in patients with recurrent furunculosis to clarify their role in this disease.- The work was achieved through the study of 40 patients with recurrent staphylococcal furunculosis. They were subjected to careful history taking , general and dermatological examination, routine laboratory investigations , culture of pus from boil for staph, aureus. Assessment of neutrophil chemotaxis and neutrophil killing function by NBT dye reduction test were done for 40 patients and for 10 healthy controls. The following results were obtained:- - Increased age incidence of furunculosis after puberty with highest age incidence of age group ranged from 21 up to 40 years. - Female patients showed higher incidence of furunculosis |
