Abstract

This study has been planned to evaluate the reliability of capnography and pulse oximetry as non-invasive monitors of and respectively during deliberate hypotension. Twenty one patients were illcluded in this study who were submitted to laminectomy operation prone position. Anaesthesia was induced with thiopentone intubation was facilitated by suxamethonium and maintained with gas-oxygen,halothane and d.T.C. Patients were classified into two groups:- The first control (normotensive) group 0f 10 patients and 2nd (hypotensive) group comprised 0f 11 patients all patients of the G control group inhaled anaesthetic halothane concentration ranging +rom 0.5 -1 % carried by N20/oxygen (2:1) to achieve normotension. While the hypotensive group were subjected to the same anaesthetic procedure except for halothane concentration ranging from 1.5-3% to achieve hypotension as 25% 0+ MABP. All patients were mechanically ventilated at tidal volume of 10 ml/kg and respiratory rate of 10 breaths / mIn. a central venous line and arterial cannula were inserted.
