Abstract This study was performed to compare the intramuscular midazolam administration versus its preinduction use regarding the hemodynamic variables associated with anxiety of operation and tracheal intubation. The patients were examined the night before surgery as regard blood pressure and heart rate and other routine examinations were done. At the mooring of operation, measurement of blood pressure was before administration of midazolam then before induction of anaesthesia (after midazolam administration). The patients were classified into two groups, 20 patients each. The first group were injected intravenously by 0.07mg/Kg in mediately before induction of anaesthesia and the second group were injected intramuscularly by the same dose 30 minutes before induction of anaesthesia. The thiopentone sodiwn was the inducing agent, using loss of eyelash reflex as an end point. Tracheal intubation was facilitated with suxamethoniw11 Img/Kg using suitable cuffed disposable tube, anaesthesia was maintained by nitrous oxide / oxygen, halothane 0.5-1 % and vecroniwn as muscle relaxant. |
