Abstract Abnormalities of the GH/IGF-I axis have consistently been reported in adolescents with IDDM. Our aim in this study is to highlight such GH/IGF-I axis abnormalities and its relation to the mean metabolic control (HbA]c) in a group of 27 pre-pubertal and pubertal subjects having IDDM with their mean age 11.8 ± 2.7 years. Thirty healthy subjects of matched age and sex were used as a control group. The studied patients and control groups were subjected to, thorough history and clinical examination, anthropometric measurements, HhAic determination, post-prandial blood sugar, GH, IGF-I and IGFBP-3. Clonidine provocation test was used to evaluate growth hormone release during tress and GH was determined at 0,20,40,60, 90, and 120 minutes of the test. The results were processed by parametric statistical methods in parametric data and with non-parametric statistical methods in non¬parametric data. The results showed:- 2) Height demonstrated non-significant difference compared to control. 3) Weight% to ideal was higher- IDDM compared to control. |
