Abstract

Openings may appear quite often in reinforced concrete structures, particularly in industrial and office buildings, where a large number of mechanical installations and pipelines, for sanitation, heating ventilation, air conditioning are required.
In lift slab method of construction, a new position for these openings is provided in the flat slabs at column position. Occurrence of such openings causes a redistribution of stresses under the different conditions during the lift operation of these slabs.
Such a structural problem should not be solved in the field but should be worked out in the structural design office after precise studies.
Object of the work : the aim of the research is to investigate the effect of providing square or rectangular slab openings at the column positions on the values of deformations and stresses when subjected to static loading at different stages of lifting.
A realistic analysis of reinforced concrete members for displacement and internal stresses, involves many complexities.
