Abstract

Assembly lines form a big stone in mass production systems. The assembly line blanching problems have been tackled by many researchers. This problem is basically to group work elements into stations along the assembly line, taking into consideration their precedence relationship according to the technological orders. The objective is to achieve a minimum balance delay and a maximum pro-ductivity. Heuristics rules using computers offer the most effective tool for blanching the assembly lines. This thesis reviews the assembly line blanching problems thoroughly by surveying the up –to – date research. Most of the previous approaches treat the problems, assuming that the cycle time of the line (rate of production) must exceed or at least equal to the maximum work element time in the assembly line. Therefore, the new approach may work at any cycle time regardless to the work element’s duration time. The proposed approach depends on the idea of parallel multiple stations. This concept is based on using the ranked posititional weight techniques as a weighing system. This depends on giving a weight for each work elements according to the time of work elements in according order.
