Abstract In this thesis the factors effecting power consumption in wood working machinerys refering to sawing were studied. Three types of wood were chosen (samba, Mahogany and casuarina) for the investigations. The physical and mechanical properties of these types of wood were studied. The experiments performed were:-A) The physical tests to determine. 1- Specific gravity.ii- Moisture content percentage.B) The mechanical tests to determine:-i) Compression strength across and along fibres .ii- Shear strength and (iii) hardness test. These teats illustrated the ability of the wood to resist applied forces. Cutting experiments were carried out to determine the effect of the following factors on the force required for cutting and power consumption of the machine :- i) The feed fate of specimen ii ) the thickness to becut iii) Moisture content (iv) shear strength (v) The direction of cutting ( Along and Across fibres ). |
