Abstract

Seventeen strains of different genera and species of fresh water microalgae had been isolated as unialgal, then axenic cultures, starting from algal samples collected from different sites and habitats of Mansoura and surrounding countryside. These included : seven strains of blue green algae, eight greens and two diatoms. Seven strains representing all our groups : 2blue greens (Anabaena oryzae, Nostoc ellipsosporum), 4 greens (Chlamydomonas globosa, Chlorella ellipsoida, Scenedesmus quadricauda var. longispina and Zygnema sterile) and 1 diatom (Navicula canalis) were chosen for our experimental work with 10 heavy metals (Cd, Co, Cu, Cr, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn).
