Abstract Hepatitis C virus (HCV), had been recognized as the principle cause of non- A, non--B hepatitis. It represents a major puplic health problem allover the world, due to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinorna leading to high mortality rates. Detection of anti - HCV antidodies as a routine method for diagnosis of the infection can be readily obtained with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and recombinant antigen immunoblot assay (RIBA). The sensitivity and specificity of these techniques are low. Recently, with the aid of molecular biology, a major focus of research on the polymerase chain reaction for detection of viral, bacterial and genetic diseases has been taken. |
