Abstract The powerful recombinant DNA technology facilitated the identification of thousands of genes of a wide variety of sources. The study of a particular gene using biochemical analysis might require the preparation of enormous amounts of DNA from the organism containing that gene. Even if this was successfully completed, the process of isolating the gene would be nearly impossible. On the other hand recombinant DNA technology requires the use of microgram amounts of DNA to isolate a particular gene and it facilitates preparation of great amounts of that gene and its protein product for further study by cloning in E. coli. Recombinant DNA technology has never ending applications in the fields of medicine, industry and agriculture. |
