Abstract In an attempt to prepare a subunit schistosomiasis vaccine, extensive research have concentrated on cloning schistosome genes encoding potentially protective antigens. Several laboratories have cloned candidate S. mansoni vaccine antigens. Most of these antigens were selected based on their recognition by the sera of highly protected animals, immunized with irradiated-cercariae. These antigens have been tested using conventional approaches of immunization, inducing varying degrees of resistance to the parasite. |
