Abstract The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of various forms of nitrogen as well as the effect of various combinations of nitrogen, phosphorus and iron growth and metabolism of SceE~d~~ disciformis at varrious intervals throughout an The first experiment was carried out to investigate the influence of various forms of inorganic and organic nitrogen on various growth pcrameters of Scenedesrnus disc~ormis. It appeared clear that inclusion of nitrate and urea in the culture media was the most effective treaatment. This was followed by two large scale culture expperiments in which the alga wns cultured in media supplem. ented with various concentra~ions of nitrate or urea nitroogen, phosphorus and iron at two light intensities. The results obtained showed that the response of groowth of Scenedesmus disci~o~is was dependent on the light intensity, concentrations of nitrogen, phosphorus and iron end on the form of the nitrogen chemical used. Thus all the measured criteria of browth either remained unchanged. accelerated or suppressed. |
