Abstract

Earth is now begging to be saved from human destructiveness; thus, humans consider themselves the masters of Earth who have the right to exploit its resources, being oblivious to the fact that they are part of it and their survival depends on it. Consequently, different literary genres such as ecopoetry strive to increase human awareness of the current environmental problems that threaten the planet’s survival–through urging humans to protect and reconnect with the environment. In this concern, this thesis adopts a critical analytical approach to the poetry of Wendell Berry–a well-established ecopoet, a prominent farmer, and a proponent of ecological issues–hoping that this thesis will encourage readers to conserve the nonhuman world, avoid environmentally destructive actions, and be faithful to their community. For this definite purpose, this thesis tackles Berry’s perspective on nature and on man-nature relationship through highlighting Berry’s agrarian values and pinpointing the different facets of human destruction of nature as well as proper solutions.
