Abstract

Acne vulgaris is considered as a chronic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous follicles, common in adolescents. Calgranulin C is an excellent biomarker for inflammatory processes. Calgranulin C is a predominant cytoplasmic proteins of neutrophils and is produced by various cells. It also plays an important role in innate immunity and the inflammatory process.
Aim of the work: To evaluate role of calgranulin C protein in acne pathogenesis and correlate its level with severity of acne, lipid profile and serum insulin.
Patients and methods: This study included 30 acne vulgaris patients and 30 healthy individuals as control group. Serum Calgranulin C, insulin level and lipid profile levels were measured in all patients and control group .
Results: Serum Calgranulin C level was higher in acne vulgaris patients compared to controls in a statistically significant manner with p value (0.001), while serum insulin and lipid profile levels were within normal ranges. There was no statistically significant correlation between serum Calgranulin C and disease severity.
