Abstract

The study aims to determine the Motives for working in the informal economy in the tourism sector. Moreover, identifying the obstacles of joining tourism projects for financial inclusion and the formal economy. The study gives ideas to Raising awareness of the Egyptian tourism sector institutions that are not affiliated with the official economy to include them in financial inclusion through the recommendations which directed to responsible authorities of tourism Ministry, Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank, and Ministry of Planning & Economic Development to put in consideration for enhancing the study results.
The points of the conclusion and results can be presented in the following:
• MSMEs Motives for working in the informal economy in the tourism sector, includes:
1. Escaping from the burden of taxes imposed on tourism projects under the formal economy.
2. The speed of the establishment of the tourism project and terminate its procedures at the lowest cost and time.
3. Difficulty of obtaining licenses and familiarity with laws and legislations to work in the formal economy.
4. The owner of the tourism project doesn’t bear more banking burdens under the informal economy.
5. The difficulty of tourism MSMEs owners complying with regulatory restrictions or licenses and rules for establishing formal tourism projects.
6. There is always freedom in the decisions and actions of the informal tourism projects
7. Low confidence in dealing with financial institutions and banking services.
8. Receiving all profits of the tourism project; unlike official projects, from which a portion of the profits is deducted.
9. MSMEs owners believe that there is always a state of uncertainty ahead in the formal economy.
• Financial inclusion offers important incentives for the MSMEs in tourism sector, including:
1. Providing the necessary credit transactions for tourism project owners.
2. Enabling listing and entry into local and international stock exchanges.
3. Enabling the expansion of the use of digital financial services.
4. Enabling the expansion of tourism projects and easy access to global markets.
5. Obtaining soft loans for tourism projects.
• Financial inclusion have many impacts on the formal economy of the tourism sector, includes:
1. Contributing in build an accurate financial information base that achieve the orientations of monetary policy, and provide financing for tourism projects.
2. Contributing in the innovation of financial services that suit the requirements of tourism projects.
3. Reducing cash flow in tourism projects.
4. Reducing the amount of financial corruption and tax evasion in the tourism sector.
5. Achieving sustainability of tourism projects by providing financial services to the largest number of new customers and maximizing profits.
6. Protecting tourism projects from the risks of default, bankruptcy and the consequences of global crises (financial – geopolitical – closure risks).
7. improving economic growth rates in the tourism sector
8. Reducing inflation rates in the tourism sector.
• MSMEs owners are often not familiar with all the financial services available for tourism projects.
• There is a positive correlation between financial inclusion incentives and the volume of project work (small, medium, micro). The Small tourism projects are the most projects affected by financial inclusion incentives.
• Financial inclusion incentives increase, the formal economy of the tourism sector also increases.
• Financial inclusion incentives increase, motivations for working in the informal economy in the tourism sector decrease.
• Financial inclusion enhancing the confidence of tourism project owners in dealing with banking services provided by official financial institutions.
• Tourism MSMEs suffers from Applying non-advanced and inexpensive methods to compete and continue engage in business activity.
• Financial inclusion promotes entrepreneurship and start-up projects by providing non-financial services and providing comprehensive and effective infrastructure.
• There is a positive correlation between the innovative nature of the tourism project and its orientation towards financial inclusion and working within the formal economy.
