The study aimed to assess the levels of psychological defeat and job satisfaction, examine the nature of the relationship between them, determine the extent to which psychological defeat contributes to predicting job satisfaction, and analyze the differences between psychological defeat, job satisfaction, and certain demographic variables. The sample consisted of 300 employees randomly selected from various faculties at Sohag University, encompassing diverse age groups, genders, educational levels, marital statuses, salaries, and experiences. The study utilized the Psychological Defeat Scale (developed by Mohamed Abu Halawa and Rashed Rizk,2013) and the Job Satisfaction Scale (developed by the researcher), employing a descriptive research methodology. After processing the data using appropriate statistical methods, the results indicated a high level of psychological defeat and a low level of job satisfaction among the participants. A statistically significant negative correlation was found between the total score and dimensions of the Psychological Defeat Scale and Job Satisfaction Scale among the sample individuals. However, no significant differences were observed in psychological defeat and job satisfaction based on age, gender, educational level, and salary. Discrepancies were noted in job satisfaction based on gender, specifically in terms of personal factors among females. Discrepancies in psychological defeat were found based on marital status (single vs. widowed/divorced), while no differences were observed based on marital status in job satisfaction. Discrepancies in psychological defeat and job satisfaction were evident based on the variable of experience, particularly in the 6-10 years of experience category. Lastly, the study revealed the potential to predict job satisfaction (dimensions and total score) based on the Psychological Defeat Scale (dimensions and total score) among employees at Sohag University.
