Abstract

Background: Nursing care for patients with cuffed endotracheal tubes (ETT) is a fundamental aspect of nursing practice. Utilizing Blended education for training nurses can enhance their proficiency and expertise, ultimately enhancing the quality of patient care. Aim: Evaluate the effect of educational programs on critical care nurses’ performance of cuffed endotracheal tube care using a blended method. Sampling: All critical care nurses on duty, their total number were 60 nurses. Setting: intensive care units at Minia Emergency Hospital, their number were 35 nurses and 25 nurses at the Liver Hospital both Hospitals were affiliated to the Minia University Hospitals. Tools: The First Tool: ICU Nurses’ Socio-demographic characteristics questionnaire. Second Tool: ICU Nurses knowledge assessment questionnaire. Third Tool: Nurses’ practice checklist of cuffed endotracheal tube care. Results: Reveals that 6.7% of study participants represent a satisfactory knowledge pre-application of the blended method of educational which improved to 96.7% post 2 weeks followed by 95% Post 3 months. Also, a satisfactory level of cuffed ETT care before educational program was (0%) which improved significantly post 2 weeks to 100% and 98.3% post 3 months. Conclusion: The current study concluded that the implementation of blended method of educational for critical care nurses regarding cuffed endotracheal tube care had been proven to be significantly effective in the improvement of nurses’ performance. Recommendations: Blended training should be widely used for all nurses in different units and departments to ensure updated knowledge and practices through the continuing education center.
