Abstract

Since 1997 the WHO formally recognized obesity as a global epidemic. Overweight and obesity are the fifth leading risk for global deaths. At least 2.8 million adults die each year as a result of being overweight or obese. Obesity is a primary medical condition that is progressive, relapsing, and usually lasts many years; It is associated with increased use of health care. Obesity is a chronic condition and a complex disorder that requires long-term follow-up and care. It is characterized by an excess of body fat. It is believed that both over-consumption of calories and reduced physical activity are mainly involved in obesity. It is most often defined by the body mass index, a formula that is highly correlated with body fat. Body mass index is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared (kg/m2). person is considered obese if they have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater, the terms also identify ranges of weight that shown the increase in likelihood of certain diseases and other health problems.
Obesity become a major health care priority of the 21st century. Obesity is associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea, certain types of cancer, osteoarthritis and asthma . As a result, obesity has been found to reduce human life expectancy.
