Abstract Introduction :. The Fontan procedure provides a palliative treatment option for pediatric patients with functionally single ventricle congenital heart disease. The aim of the work: The current study aims at screening of hepatic injury in CCHD patients who underwent Fontan operation using different imaging modalities (liver ultrasound &MRI) in Cardiology Department Children Hospital Mansoura University. Patients: A cross sectional study including 11 patients from Cardiology unit of Mansoura University Children hospital were enrolled in this study, the study was conducted over a period of 1 year . started in 2022 and ended in 2023. Methods: All patients in the present study were subjected to: Patients data , Examination, ECG, Echocardiography, Laboratory data, Abdominal ultrasound and Magnertic resonance imaging (MRI). Results & Conclusion: 1-Hepatic complication in patients with congenital heart diseases who underwent Fontan operation is more in male than female. 2-Hepatic complication in patients with congenital heart diseases who underwent Fontan operation is more likely to occur after 5 years from operation. 3-Delayment in managment by Fontan operation may have bad outcome in patients with single ventricle. 4-MRI is recommended as a sensitive tool for evaluation of hepatic affection after Fontan. Recommendations: •Short term follow up is required for all patients with congenital heart diseases who underwent Fontan operation by echogardiography every 6 -12 months and long term follow up by MRI every 3 years . •Further research on a bigger number of patients is needed to identify patients at risk for more severe liver disease and to determine the best methods for assessing liver health in this population. |
