Abstract

The study is a retrospective study where patients with known or suspected PH were enrolled and were followed up over a period of over 3.5 ±3.1 years. Our sample size was 185 patients who were classified into 3 groups; No PH group (n= 58) (defined as PASP <36 mmHg along with non-severe TR), PH with non-severe TR (n=91) and PH with severe TR (n=36). Our cohort was divided depending on the presence of PH without severe TR or with severe TR for the sake of:
1- Showing the effect of pressure overload alone without significant volume overload (PH with non-severe TR group) and those with mixed pressure and significant volume overload (PH with severe TR group) on 2D parameters including the strain and the 3D volumetric parameters and 3D strain in PH patients.
2- Demonstrating the prognosis and survival of those groups.
The main objective of this study was to determine the prognostic value of 3D global and 3D free wall longitudinal strain (LS), circumferential strain (CS) and area strain (AS) in patients with PH and to establish the prognostic significance of 2D RV free wall longitudinal strain (FWLS) and 3D volumetric imaging in PH patients. Our secondary objectives were (1) to describe the contribution of the 3 components of global RV contraction (longitudinal, radial, and anteroposterior) in patients with PH and (2) to determine if these regional RV contractility components are associated with patients’ outcome.
