Abstract Infection by SARS-CoV2 (the initial name was 2019-nCOV) causes Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) which is transmitted through large droplets generated during coughing and sneezing by either symptomatic patients or asymptomatic people (Li et al., 2020). The most commonly affected organ system by COVID-19 is the pulmonary system (Chen et al., 2020). Extrapulmonary organs are also affected by corona virus causing extrapulmonary manifestations including Audio-vestibular symptom: Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is the most frequent audio-vestibular symptom described, occurring alone or in association with tinnitus and vertigo. The etiopathogenesis of the inner ear disorders related to COVID-19 infection is still poorly understood. (Fancello, 2021) This case control study was conducted to assess audio vestibular manifestation in COVID-19 patient post-infection at Menoufia University Hospital and mit-khalaf hospital, The study included (500) patients who were attending Audiology Unit with established diagnosis of COVID-19 based on classic clinical and laboratory features from January 2021 to January 2023. Subjects included in this study were divided into 3 groups; Control group: consisted of (500) normal subjects of normal individual, not complaining of dizziness or hearing loss in the age range (18-60) years. Study group (COVID-19 cases group): consisted of 500 subjects in the age range (18-60) years, with exclusion of patients suffering from chronic disease and smokers. vaccinated group consisted of 200 subjects in the age range (18-60) years, with no previous history of COVID-19 infection. All COVID-19 patients in the study group were subjected to the following: full history taking : Onset of COVID infection , Method of diagnosis, Duration of infection , Site of treatment: at home – at hospital – ICU addmition , Use of chloriqine in treatment protocol and duration of treatment, Sensation of aural occlusion , Sensation of hearing loss: sudden or gradual – unilateral or bilateral , Treatment of hearing loss by corticosteroid , Duration between onset of infection and hearing loss , Sensation of tinnitus: continuous or intermittent – unilateral or bilateral , Duration between onset of infection and tinntus , Dizziness (duration – onset after COVID – falling attake- specific position), Vaccinated or not>, If vaccinated: type of vaccine- any audiovestibular manifestation after vaccine. |
