المستخلص Microbial polysaccharides reveal a lot of compositional and functional variations, which make them suitable for various industries. A considerable number of fungi, isolated from different habitats, were able to synthesize polysaccharides; however, many remain under-study to produce novel polysaccharides. Accordingly, this study was devoted for production of exopolysaccharides (or extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs)) and chitosan by filamentous fungi. The objectives of this study were to isolate and identify fungi, select the highest EPSs-producing fungal strain, enhance EPSs production by the selected strain, enhance the process of chitosan extraction from the fungal biomass, characterize the enhanced EPS and the enhanced chitosan, as well as to evaluate some of their activities. The obtained results were summarized in the following points: 1. Sixty-four fungal species belonging to 19 genera of filamentous fungi were isolated from samples of soil, apple, banana, grape, guava, strawberry, and sugarcane juice collected from Assiut Governorate, Egypt. |
