Abstract

Aluminum phosphide (AlP) is a highly effective rodenticide. It is used
to preserve grains with retained seed viability and minimal toxic residual
effect. It is found as dark gray 3-gram tablet with, cheap and easy to use
making it widely spread in agriculture countries including Egypt.
Easly availability and public awareness of high mortality effect of AlP
tablet with lacking authorities’ limitation in sales, it is widely used for
commitment suicide.
Acute poisoning is a common cause of admission to poison
control centers which able to provide immediate, free, and expert
treatment in cases of exposure to poisonous or hazardous substances and
often needs treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). It may occur either
intentionally (deliberately) or unintentionally (accidentally).
Evaluating the magnitude of aluminum phosphide poisoning problem
within four years related to arrival and death percentage from total acute
poisoning cases admitted to Menoufia Poison Control and dependence
Center (MPCC) at Menoufia University hospital:
It found that there was a rising of percentages of acute phosphide
toxicity cases arrived at the MPCC in years 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 as
follow 3.3%, 5.8%, 9.9%, 23.5% from total acute toxicity respectively.
