Abstract Thyroid hormones are metabolized and their systemic action is regulated by the liver. The liver is a significant locus of peripheral thyroid hormone conversion, breakdown, and excretion. It also synthesizes and degrades carrier proteins for thyroid hormones. Thus, liver dysfunctions may alter thyroid hormone metabolism. The aim of the current study was to test thyroid function in all children with chronic liver disorders who followed up at the Pediatric Hepatology clinic at Alexandria University Children’s Hospital (AUCH). |
