Abstract The goal of this study was to cryopreserve stallion semen using two different extenders, com¬pare them, and select the optimal extender with the least amount of harmful damage to sperms. In this investigation, the concep¬tion rate in mares that were inseminated with this cryopreserved semen was also calculated. A total of 54 ejaculates were used in this study. Six ejaculates per stallion were obtained from the nine Stallions, that individually housed at the veterinary clinic. Semen sample was collected on a regular basis (two ejaculates ⁄ week) during the 2021 breeding season (from May to August month). Collection is completed in presence of a teaser mare by Missouri style artificial vagina. It was be lubricated by non-spermicidal gel, and pre-warmed to 45–50 degrees, and fixed from inner by filter to separate the gel fraction. Immediately after semen collection, all ejaculates were sent to the laboratory for evaluation sperm parameters (total motility, progressive motility, slow motility, sperm cell concentration and sperm abnormalities) by CASA, IMV company, France. |
