Abstract

The current study across sectional study was conducted to assess the prevalence of erectile dysfunction among diabetic patients attending primary health care settings, affiliated with the General authority for healthcare. All participants were interviewed. Data collected by using a questionnaire, which is consisted of 5 parts at the same visit for every participant: sociodemographic data, diabetes characteristic, lifestyle, surgical and sexual history, the Arabic translation of the abridged IIEF-5 Questionnaire, and the WHO-5.
After interpretation of the IIEF, the total cases with ED were 68.6% of the studied cases, classified into mild ED with score (17–21) were 27% of the studied cases, mild to moderate ED with score (12–16) were 23.8% of the studied cases, moderate ED with score (8–11) were 13.4% of the studied cases and severe ED with score (5–7) were 4.4% of the studied cases. Also, normal cases with score (22– 25) were 31.4% of the studied cases.
Based on the result of the present study the following may be concluded ED prevalence was high among primary care patients with diabetes in Ismailia Governorate 68.6%. The relationship of ED with certain risk factors, such as increased age, not working status, smoking currently, having retinopathy, poor glycemic control, hypertension, increased BMI, and poor well-being. Patients should be assessed and managed for ED during caring of their diabetes in PHC settings.
