Abstract Boilers or steam generators are the backbone of power plants as well as many industries. In this book we tried to get deeper into this device to understand what it is and know the variety of functions and applications that we can get from it. This project aims to study the performance of supercritical steam generator (Boiler) for a power plant. First, we went through a historical view for the boilers their classification. Further we discussed the specifications of the supercritical boiler, its components, structure, and heat transfer that goes inside. The focus in the present work is on the boiler model which is separated into subcomponents; A water wall, 3 super heaters, 2 reheaters and economizer. Each component consists of one discrete volume of flue gas respectively water that are able to exchange heat by convection or radiation. As a case study, we studied “Ain El-Sokhna” power plant going through its specifications and operating conditions of the boiler including the flow diagram, the stages of steam path inside the boiler, temperature distribution of steam and flue gases inside it and, selecting the proper material for it and calculating the surface area of each part inside the boiler on which heat transfer occurs. At last, we researched into using solar energy for feed water heating which is going to save bleeding steam from the turbine which improves the efficiency and increases the output power generated. |
